L.L., I actually messed this up. You were supposed to be a blog I liked. But somehow the annotation about you got lost. I knew you and others had been tagged, so I tried to deflect all tags into the comments section.

Let me start with Llamamomma. She asks, "How do you handle punctuation after a URL?"

Good question.

There are lots of style manuals to look for the answer. I suspect each one will give you a different answer. CMA (Chicago Manual of Style) is pretty much the publication industry standard. I always go to it first.

In section 17.10 on "URLS and punctuation" it says, "A 'trailing slash,' the last character in a URL pointing to a directory, is part of the URL. Other punctuation markes used following a URL will readily be perceived as belonging to the surrounding text."

So use the period if it is at the end of a sentence.

Or better yet, don't show the URL at all. Since you made Erika's site into a hyperlink with an "a href" tag, I assume you know how to do this. Just create an appropriate noun phrase. Like Karin H. did in her comment with Kent's name.
