GoodWordEditing.com: The Faith of Barack Obama… Is Pretty Solid

  • Marcus · 1 year ago
Hey everyone. I'll be teaching a poetry workshop at Laity Lodge this weekend. We have very limited net access out there, but I'll try to pop in to address comments as I can. No promises.

In the meantime, feel free to discuss amongst yourselves. But BEHAVE!

Nice review, Marcus. My wife and I enjoyed his Denver speech last night. We're traditionally Republican but vote for who's most qualified. Haven't decided yet for this election, but voting for Obama might get me banned from the family. Many of them have written him off and I think it's due to these questions surrounding his faith. We (I'm guilty, too) seem quick to play God and judge others' soul-standing.

I hope we don't pay for this too dearly when the time comes.

Great review Marcus, succinctly states a major problem in western Christendom today. Thanks for this.

This is a serious pet peeve with me. My mother-in-law recently said, "The thing that worries me about Obama is his connection to Islam."

I try not to get into it with them but I just couldn't let this pass. I had to say something.

"He's a professing Christian. He has publicly claimed to be a follower of Christ. AND, he's been a member of a Christian church for a long time."

She was still skeptical. Tragic. Look, when someone claims Christ, I do NOT want to be grieving the Holy Spirit by second guessing him. Unless he demonstrates that he is lying, then he is in the family. Period. And accorded all due respect and love and acceptance.

Ironically, Ronald Reagan was probably not much of a Christian, if church attendance and living a seeking life are any measure. I don't want to judge Reagan's faith either. But Obama has a life that shows he is more serious about his faith than Reagan was. Yet the right wing Christians loved Reagan and suspect Obama.

    Hypocrisy.
