The Horror, The Horror

Started by goodwordediting · 9 months ago

I mean that in a good way. As some of you know, I really like horror films, horror novels, and horror stories. In fact, I’m writing some of my own. (It might also be a thriller, rather than horror, but I’m still a little fuzzy on the difference.)
That ... Continue reading »

  • haha. I don't know. Life often reminds me of a horror story with some of its twists and quirks, as well as outright catastrophes.

But a good story is always good, imagination too. And to have a little chilling excitement should be a part of any good story, suspense, whatever.

But I guess I just can't stomach too well pure, unadulterated horror. Maybe a defect in me?!

  • no comment...hehehe.

i think you were wise to listen to your wife.
it is always wise to listen to your wife.

i like to read a mystery now and then.
but horror is not my cup of tea.
    but, that is me
    i can not take it
it gets me all up tight.
  • Mark,
Have you read Stephen King's "Danse Macabre?" Gives the best explanation of why some are drawn to horror, why readers want to be scared.
    As for myself, I pass.

  • You're a writer. More than one thing is wrong with you.

  • Well, I'm sure there is plenty wrong with you Marcus, but just run of the mill stuff I'm sure. For me, I could care less what the subject of that film is, that is INCREDIBLY COOL AND CREATIVE STUFF. I was totally hooked. Such a great gritty, dark, comic book world. How wonderful to be able to deliver that with a bunch of pieces of paper.

    loved it.
  • Yeah, I'm not prepared to say there's something wrong with you since thousands of others also like the genre. In the last CSFF blog tour, we had a good discussion of horror in the comments of <a href=Sci Fi Catholic's post.

Interestingly, I've read Anne Rice say even in her horror writing she was exploring the spiritual.

Me, I just don't like being scared. Cheering on my favorite sports teams is enough of an adrenalin spike for me. ;-)

  • Yes. The short answer is "yes!"
  • Wow. I clicked over to the preview. It was breathtakingly beautiful. Especially from a visual art perspective.

I'm not a horror fan, but I occasionally like a good suspense tale. Oh, and I love everything M Night Shyamalan does. He can make even the empty corner of a room so scary!

Why do we like to be scared? It's a good question. Or perhaps it is better put like this... why do YOU like to be scared?
  • Marcus, nothing wrong with you that a few more years and a decrease in bladder control won't fix.
